RABBIT RUMBA
PRIMERA ANTOLOGIA DE LA RUMBA

(WAH WAH RECORDS SUPERSONIC SOUNDS WBSLP014)

HAMMOND GROOVES DRIVEN GIPSY RUMBA MASTERPIECE!

The most sought after LP of the Catalan Rumba movement. First 300 copies including a bonus 7” with unreleased mixes of  "Nuestro Ayer" and "Para Elisa"!

Reedición del disco más buscado de la Rumba Catalana, las 300 primeras copias incluyen single de regalo con dos mixes inéditos de "Nuestro Ayer" y "Para Elisa"

In 1972 Josep Cunill, after having spent some years touring Latin America with several professional orchestras, most notably The Latin Combo, was comissioned by producer Miguel Casas to record an anthology gathering some of the most popular catalan rumba tunes. He entered Gema Studios with some of the most reputed musicians of the genre to record "Rabbit Rumba". With the basic tracks covering some of the most successful artists of the genre like Peret or Los Amaya y su Combo Gitano laid in Gema 1 studio he finished the tapes at Gema 2 with the help of a Hammond X-77 that he used to produce layers of cool organ sounds. The resulting recordings have been labeled as "the Jackie Mitoo of Catalan Rumba!" or sort of "Jimmt Smith if surrendered by gipsies!" Cunill's rumba benefited of this great musician's high experience in all sort of latin sounds, he brought from Latin American & Caribbean shores a rhythm cadence that was then uncommon in catalan rumba and that makes "Rabbit Rumba" one of the most interesting and sought after albums of the genre.
The good news is that paying high amounts for a vinyl copy of this little gem is over, since thanks to Wah Wah this wonder of rumba sound is available again... Though for a limited time, only 500 copies have been pressed. The first 300 of them feature a bonus single that includes two remixes of the album made by Makala (Euskadi Gaztea) and Miguelito Superstar (FTM).

WAH WAH RECORDS SUPERSONIC SOUNDS WBSLP013

Great but still rather unknown german spiritual jazz including the massive "Nil", originally compiled by Rainer Trüby on the second volume of the Glücklich series (along Sail Joia and Niagara).

It’s about time to exhumate this gem from the 70’s german jazz underground for your listening pleasure !.

Drummer Heinz Von Moisy leads Irisation, an incredible quintet formed Carlo Domeniconi (acoustic guitar), Manfred Burzlaff (vibraphon), Dieter Gützkow (bass), Ulrich Moritz (percussion) and Von Moissy himself performing six self-penned original numbers (either by Domeniconi or Burlaff) that cross a wide selection of moods and atmospheres; from the free and fragile delicacy of Nil, which builds from silence to reach the most inspired climax, to the sunny guitar licks of "Samba Do Contrabandista" via the cinematic "La Carretera" or the irresistibly hypnotic "Mirage", let’s not forget the eastern-flavoured track-title "Las plantas". Full of exotic, almost oriental touches and breezy brazilian vibes, this is an album to discover and treasure !!

Originally released by the tiny Thorofon label in 1977, now Wah Wah brings it back from oblivion in a limited issue strictly limited to 500 copies housed in a nice cover reproducing the original artwork by member Ulli Moritz . Better grab one now !!

Strictly limited edition. 500 copies. Get it now or cry later!

WBSLP012  VARIOUS'HEAVY FUNKY BEAUTIFUL SOULFUL'

Wah Wah Records has the pleasure to introduce you to what it is with no boubt the best soul and funk compilation ever issued in Spain in the 1970’s. HEAVY, FUNKY, SOULFUL! Was originally issued by Discophon in 1972 featuring recordings licensed from small sub labels of Philadelphia’s seminal soul label "pre-TSOP" Jamie Records. Under the "Young Black America’s music" caption we find the works of talented producers such as Paul Kyser or Van McCoy, originally issued on labels such as Phi-La Of Soul, Silver Dollar or Top & Bottom. The tunes vary from minor commercial hits like the People’s Choice funk classic "I Likes To Do It" –a combo which is supposed to be Al Green’s first band- to obscure deep funk rarities like "Super Funkt Pts. I & II", by Thunder, Lightning and Rain, originally issued on the highly collectable Saadia label, plus big funky R&B tracks such as Benny Gordon’s "Give A Damn" or one of DJ Shadow’s "Brainfreeze" sampled tunes as is Un-Sound Express Ltd.’s "Ain’t It Good Enough For You." As extra goodies, the Wah Wah reissue includes two bonus tracks also released in Spain at the time: the superb killer mod dancer "The Train" by Joe Jeffrey and an always coveted northern soul floorshaker reissued here for the first time ever: Jerry Tiffe’s "Hey Watcha Doin’," originally recorded for the New York label Scepter Records, famous among others for most of the Shirelles output and other girl groups. A truly solid compilation that will please both soul afficionados and funk dancers, and I assure you it won’t be easy to grab an original copy so better get this reissue before it’s too late!

Hits like "Madness" (guess who took their name from here?), "Al Capone" or "Cincinatti Kid" mixed with the soulful rocksteady beat which evolved into worldwide popular reggae style. astrud
WBSLP008 ASTRUD GILBERTO 'With Turrentine'

Astrud & Stanley's only LP for CTI, recorded in 1971, is now available again in a splendid new gatefold cover. This should already be a classic, as everything touched by the hand of Eumir Deodato deserves. The interesting thing here is that aside from the fantastic performances of "Ponteio", "Vera Cruz" (a superb rendition by Stanley Turrentine!), "Brazilian Tapestry" or "Traveling light", we are reissuing the Spanish version of the album which features the two spanish sung covers of "Love story" and "For all we know". As a bonus, sides a & b of the superb Spanish single from 1972 "Acercándome a ti" and "En tu piel" , both written by Ennio Morricone and produced by the best producer from this country Manolo Díaz, are included in the package. "Acercándome a ti" is probably one of the very best songs Astrud Gilberto has sung, a very nice easy-with-strings tune backed by a you-must-hear-it-to-believe-it fuzz guitar sound from outer space. Groovy!
